There are several
options……
Customers can book the
house, sleeping up to seven people, as a delightful gite for £450 per week
Saturday to Saturday.
Customers can book the
house with astronomical equipment, observatories and night assistant (Olly)
for night observing for up to seven people for £600 per week Saturday to
Saturday. Olly will be based in independent accommodation and will help
you set up and manage the gear.
Customers can book in
for astronomy on a Bed & Breakfast deal. This is offered at £28 per person
per night based on two people sharing a twin bedded room. Single occupancy
supplement of £10 per night applies. An Evening Meal is an optional extra
available at £10 per person for a delicious meal including wine.
Finally we offer a
taught course for beginners (5 X 2 hour daytime sessions) plus evening
observing. Customers can book the house plus course and observing for up
to seven people for £750 per week Saturday to Saturday. The course has
been successfully delivered in a Nottinghamshire Adult Education college
and explores;
-
· The
layout of the solar system, our galaxy and the
wider universe.
-
· How
this is mapped out on star charts so as to allow us to navigate the
night sky and find objects for naked eye, binoculars and telescopes.
-
· The
nature of stars their birth, evolution and death. (Dwarfs and giants,
neutron stars, supernovae and black holes…)
-
· The
Big Bang theory and the expansion of the Universe.
Above
all… how and why astronomers came to develop and believe in the
extravagant-seeming theories examined above.
There
is no time limit on the observing – you may stay out as long as you wish
though your night assistant may leave you to it eventually!
With drops and hazards Les Granges is not
suitable for young children. Customers should discuss this with us.
The house and observing areas are
permanently non-smoking.
For
Cyclists:-
1)
House for self-guided cycle-touring, training or mountain biking. You
simply rent the house and explore the area with the help of detailed route
suggestions, maps and descriptions, all of which are based on our local
knowledge.
2)
House and cycle companion. Here
you will have the house to yourself but your
companion cyclist will be based in a separate flat in the back of
the farmhouse. The companion will share the road with you, offer route
suggestions and point out local features of interest. We avoid the word
‘guide’ because we want this to be your trip and because you must
accept responsibility for your own safety and your own equipment, though
obviously we will all pitch in together in the event of breakdowns. (A car
will be available to collect irreparable breakdowns but only after the
ride has ended.) We will suggest a range of rides for the week so you can
adjust to the weather conditions, wind direction and state of the legs.
Remember that the accompanied option brings with it the benefit of
the evening astronomical facilities at
no extra cost.
We feel these options suite small groups of friends, families or small
training groups.
If your group is too large for Les Granges we can offer alternative or
additional local accommodation including an excellent Gite with swimming
pool. We are here to help - ask us for suggestions.
